Though there was a genuine demand for a good road between Mysore- Bangalore, nobody had initiated it sincerely.
During Siddaramiah’s tenure as CM, when I was the PWD minister , the proposal for converting 1882 kms of state highways into national highways was approved by Askar Fernandes, the then union minister of transport.This has the genesis of Mysore – Bangalore road.
To fulfill this demand, this road was converted into national highway and the road work which connects (through National Highway no.275) Bangalore and Bantwala via Mysore began.
Once the proposal is initiated, any succeeding govt will naturally continue with the project. That’s what happening now in the case of Mysore – Bangalore road. People who have the responsibility of completing it should work on its quality. Instead of worrying on the quality of the road, few are busy in taking the false credit.
PWD dept had completed the road work of 30 to 40 thousand kms which is a history in Karnataka. This work was completed within our tenure. KSHIP roads which were developed by us were awarded as the best infrastructure in the country.( Anybody can verify this development work)
” Sir, many developmental works related to basic infrastructure had been completed in your tenure ” says even the people from opposition. On the other hand, own party people don’t talk about it responsibly. But I am completely indifferent to all these things as it is essential when we are in public life. We feel happy and proud to see the roads developed by us will endure for next 15-20 years in Karnataka. I don’t have any intention of saying these things.
But when our works,which are done with farsightedness are hijacked by others , it’s a painful thing that we should come out and clarify. Unlike earlier days, today is the time where we have to publicly announce what we have done. Lest I am not interested in competiting with anyone other than the matters of development.
This attitude of claiming for false credit should be stopped and the sense and maturity of appreciating the good work need to be habitual.
